The 2009 End of Year Awards AND 00’s End of Decade Awards

Folks, there’s still time to get your votes and discussion in for the professional wrestling end of the year and end of the decade awards!  Pools close the first week of January, and he’s a snap shot of some of our awards thus far:

Match of the Decade:  Currently, Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker from Wrestlemania leads the pack, but the Michaels / Triple H / Benoit triple threat, Rock vs Austin at Wrestlemania 19, and Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Kenta Kobashi from NOAH are still within striking distance.  Forum member Mr. Eko weighs in:  "If someone were to ask me why I watch puroresu, the first thing I’d do (besides give them a copy of the ’94 Super J Cup) would be to make them watch this match. Anything you thought two middle aged men could do in the ring, forget about it immediately."

Wrestler of the Year:  Chris Jericho, CM Punk, Randy Orton, and AJ Styles all have double digit votes, with Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle, and Shinsuke Nakamura getting some love as well.  Forum poster Tastycles states: I’ve gone with someone that has really grabbed his career by the horns this year in CM Punk. He’s gone from bland to brilliant and is more than deserving of the win. Mysterio is a close second."

PPV of the Decade:  One of the most intense debates of the awards, Wrestlemania 17 leads the way currently, with Wrestlemania XX, One Night Stand ’05, SummerSlam ’02, and Bound for Glory ’06 also receiving some attention.  NightShiftLoser gives his assessment:  "I’m going with One Night Stand ’05. It was the first time a lot of people had seen the old school ECW guys, and it was a great card, and a great show. The storyline surrounding it was also well done, and it’s something I still go back to, to this day."
