A Flair For The Old, The Son Also Rises, & Clarification

A FLAIR FOR THE OLD

The Hulk Hogan-Ric Flair press conference “brawl” that left Hogan bloodied all over Australian television was pathetic. Watch the video on YouTube.com. Look at the wrinkled, graying, flabby over-the-hill gang gathered around Hogan and Flair.

Did a blade job do anything to take Hulkamania’s Australian tour beyond nostalgia? No. It just looked silly.

Hogan juicing smacked of desperation. I’ve heard conflicting reports regarding advance ticket sales and, obviously, the gate will determine whether this gambit helped.

It got on TV. It was all over the papers. It reconfirmed that Hogan will chuck dignity in the gutter for a couple extra bucks, and I’m always grateful when Hulk outs himself in that manner.

But did it work?

Will combining “Grumpy Old Men” and “Fight Club” heighten interest and revenue? Or would presenting Hogan and Flair as wrestling’s two biggest legends having one last hurrah based on mutual respect and an undying competitive urge be better?

I hope Dixie Carter saw that. That’s the future of TNA.
