What’s Bothering Me? (In Professional Wrestling)

#1. Not Everyone Can Be Vince McMahon, But More Should Try

I try to support local wrestling promotions when I get the chance.  You should too.  Unfortunately, in my case, there aren't a lot of options in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area.  I'm sure plenty of you live in a place rarely used for indy wrestling on any regular basis.

The territory days of yesteryear are over and will never return to that capacity again, but there's still room for local promoters to be successful in the world of professional wrestling.  The history of the sport alone is enough to sell it to sponsors and local residents, so why aren't there more promoters attempting it?

I'm not suggesting that everyone reading this run out and try to put on a wrestling event next month.  Some aren't cut out for that type of challenge and very few know how to do it and do it well.  I only write all of this to encourage those that "are" capable to give it an honest effort.  In fact, do it BETTER than most and for that short period of time leading up to your first event, be Vince McMahon for once.  Think like him.  Talk like him.  Act like him.

There are thousands of independent wrestlers with very few places to work.  There are hundreds that have worked for WWE, WCW, or TNA that struggle to stay busy without going overseas all the time.

I'm not saying we need more promoters, in general.  We need more GOOD promoters.  There are an infinite number of fly-by-night individuals or groups that "think" they know what it takes to run an event or promotion, but they find out quickly just how inept they were in thinking that.  It's not easy.  If it was, everyone would be doing it.

Be creative.  Think outside of the box.  And always remember: it doesn't matter how good the product is that you're selling – if no one knows about it, you're not selling sh*t!  Advertising is more important than a great product or top drawing name.  Be sure to raise and set aside a budget specifically for advertising if you do attempt to run a show.

Wrestling needs more Vince McMahon's.  If you think you are one, please run your first show somewhere near the Arkansas/Oklahoma border. I would certainly appreciate it and you'll be guaranteed at least one gate sale.
