CM Punk

One Step Down

CM PunkI don't blame CM Punk for this, by the way.

Punk hasn't done anything wrong in the past few weeks. Now that the program between him and Jericho is evident, it's been better than how it was set up. I expected that all along from Punk and Jericho. They are proving me right.

The reason I'm giving Punk a step down is by comparison. It's a reflective look at where he was several months ago, to where he is now. Bill Simmons' recent burial of Triple H may have been misguided (and I'm not necessarily saying it was — maybe it's right on the money), but the point he was trying to make is worth mentioning.

When you recall what allowed Punk to get over in the first place, it makes you wonder why he's not still doing it. Sure, he might be WWE Champion. He's still involved in major programs each week. But it's certainly not the same. The ropes have been pulled back considerably.

Has Vince tried to compromise where CM Punk is concerned? "We'll let you get over, but not as much as you started to a few months ago."

It could be argued…
