Stars In Progress: Brock/Cena, Tensai Down, Sheamus

BLAST TO THE PAST – ONE STEP UP

I'm not sure why so many journalists are knocking Smackdown this week.

The amount of promotion leading into this show should given everyone an indication of what to expect. And when I compare it to that horrible Christmas special they did last year, this is a major winner in my book.

Did Smackdown do everything it could to advance the current storylines? Actually, I think it did. The inclusion of the past superstars were meant specifically to do just that. Piper was there to put over Daniel Bryan, AJ, and even the upcoming Bryan/Sheamus match. WWE continued the theme of guys watching in the back when Ryback was squashing his weekly opponent. Dusty Rhodes worked with his son. Bob Orton did the same for Randy and his program with Kane.

All of it made sense.

I didn't "love" Smackdown, but I did enjoy it. And the former stars' involvement helped more than they hurt the program and the storylines within it. That's a huge step up in my opinion when you consider "what could have been".
