#1. Media & Punk
I will defend wrestling journalists nine times out of ten when they are under fire, but even I have a hard time defending some sites posting a screen shot that suggests CM Punk did in fact blade during his match with Lawler.
I like good gossip. I believe controversy does in fact create cash. I also believe you should stretch a story, when possible, as long as readers continue to prove they want to read about it.
But there needs to be at least a shred of an actual story available.
The picture making the rounds is of Punk with his hand to his head. Wrestling pundits are saying it's the moment he cut himself. I could just as easily suggest it means he has head lice.
The job of a wrestling journalist is difficult enough without us unnecessarily giving critics more ammunition. There was no reward to speak of that made this worth the risk. Sometimes, it's best to play it safe.
Punk will likely have a field day with this if/when he sees it, and this time, wrestling media deserves it.
