THE SHIELD – ONE STEP UP

Anyone catch the video promo by The Shield on Smackdown this week? I did, and I really liked it. It had a refreshing feel to it, even though it reminded me of the nWo’s “Paid for by..” vignettes from years ago, that I also enjoyed.

I can’t say I love how Punk’s surgery forced Vince to throw them in a premature match at TLC, but it was the logical choice. I’m looking forward to it as well. We haven’t seen these guys work on a mainstream level yet and the fact that one of their opponents is Daniel Bryan will make it all the more fun for a small percentage of fans. I just hope they get enough time to demonstrate what they can do in the ring before they ultimately get chewed up by Ryback’s high-powered offense.

I say keep The Shield as a standalone group and see how things go at TLC and shortly after the event. Continue monitoring fans’ response to their actions and give them plenty of mic time to vocalize their motives. Correction, give Ambrose plenty of mic time.

I like factions in pro wrestling – always have. I’ve heard Vince isn’t too high on them anymore, so I’m trying to refrain from reading too much into The Shield’s future. That being said, I’ve found new interest in TLC with their involvement than I had with another Punk-over-Ryback match.

I’ll see you all tomorrow for #VOW10.
