Randy Orton Taking Time Off For Personal Reasons
I'm glad it's not due to suspension or injury, but it's still bad timing for Randy Orton to be taking time off. I can understand that it might be needed, and personal matters are not to be taken lightly. Especially when the details are unknown.
I find it surprising so many members of the IWC still attempt to criticize and even bury the third generation superstar. Argue that his career has gone a bit stale, fine, but to call him "overrated" or "boring" is simply laughable. Yet, those words come up repeatedly at the bottom of Orton-related news stories or columns. I probably shouldn't be surprised by that stuff anymore, but sometimes, I still am.
I tend to agree with those who feel a makeover of some kind would suit Orton. The rumored heel turn we've all been waiting on is all I think he needs, however. Especially if it's what "he" wants. It would provide a fresh look at things creatively for him.
Understand that superstars are routinely going to hit dry spots in their career. You can't make it to the top and simply stay there forever. It's not good for business and the fans won't allow it. Not today's fans, anyway. Cena is the easy example, but even Rock and Austin had periods where they hit a wall creatively. It's always going to be an issue in the entertainment business.
Randy Orton is still a "Top Five" guy in WWE. He's a main eventer with more title runs in his future. Plus, he'll continue what he's been doing for the last couple years – with very little appreciation given to him for it, in my opinion – and helping put over younger talent in the process.
I won't speculate on how much time Orton will miss in 2013, but I can't imagine he'll miss the Rumble or 'Mania. Futhermore, I would expect Orton to make his way back to the top of the card following the April show, if he's not there already by then.
