Wyatt Family – One Step Up

I'm seeing and hearing lots of criticism toward the big debut last night of the Wyatt Family — what a surprise! Those particular fans are impossible, so no point in trying.

Most fans understand that once the smoke and mirrors of pre-taped promos are gone, you're only going to get so much with a live debut. WWE handled it as good as expected last night and the Wyatt debut has to be considered a success.

It's too early to call it anything else.

If the plans were calling for a Brothers of Destruction reunion, it might be off the table due to Undertaker's reported injuries. I was surprised by this news anyway — Taker should have come back and continued work with The Shield. They stood to gain the most from working him and again, it's too early to give someone like Undertaker to the Wyatts.

I like to stay grounded as much as possible. While I agree the Wyatt promos leading up to their debut were great, unique, fresh, etc., the leader is still Husky Harris. Fans don't forget things like that. You're building an entirely new persona for the guy — it will take time.

I'm willing to give it that time. Those fans who expected too much last night and were negative today clearly aren't willing to do the same.

For what it was, and should have been, the Wyatts couldn't have asked for anything better than last night. But a delicate gimmick like this most likely won't go up in a hurry. However, it can crash and burn in the blink of an eye.

I'm looking forward to watching this play out. I'll reassess in a month or so.
