CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel was another great match of the night. The intensity was there and I really felt WWE gave Axel a great opportunity to showcase him carrying a match with a top talent. Axel has a smooth delivery of punches and kicks, as well as having a strong ability to keep his speed at a certain pace. I have rarely seen Axel has to rush moves or lag behind his opponent. Punk and Axel put on a great match that ultimately is overshadowed by the events after the match.
Paul Heyman was at his absolute best tonight. After he handcuffed Punk, Axel gave him a kendo stick to whip Punk. Punk took a hell of a beating from Heyman and Axel. As Heyman struck Punk in the chest and stomach, he yelled about loving him, being his father figure, and how his heart was broken. You could feel how personal it really is. You sensed incredible emotions, some that are rarely duplicated. Paul Heyman and CM Punk are making a feud between a superstar and a manager the most personal situation we have witnessed in years.
The payoff seems to be at Night of Champions when Punk will face Axel and Heyman in an Elimination Handicap Match. We will be treated to Punk getting a good fight out of Axel on a big stage. We will also see Punk get his hands on, theoretically speaking, Paul Heyman. This is a money feud with a money ending. It will not end at Night of Champions, but will further the hatred and possibly help out a few superstars in the process.
