WrestleZone’s Top 10: Night of Champions Matches

Number 9: Dolph Ziggler vs. Rey Mysterio at Night of Champions 2009

Dolph Ziggler

At a time where Dolph Ziggler was beginning to prove himself in the WWE, he had the hard task of keeping up with Rey Mysterio in an Intercontinental Championship match. Although the feud lacked a strong build, the match was great. Ziggler, as the heel, was able to Powerbomb Rey into the corner, something that we see every week from Rollins now. The match reminded me of Angle vs. Mysterio from SummerSlam 2002 because both men wanted the pace fast and full of energy. Ziggler held his own and proved how good he really was. As Ziggler and Mysterio went to the top, Ziggler hit an incredible and painful Gutbuster onto Rey. This got a rave reaction from the crowd. As the high spots continued, Mysterio finally was able to hit a splash from the top rope and pick up the victory. This match filled out the card in 2009 and may have been the most enjoyable from the first minute of the match to the very end. It was placed right before Hardy and Punk for a reason. The crowd loved it and so did I.
