Title This: WWE Smackdown Reaction January 10th, 2014

The Main Events

wwe smackdown reactionRandy Orton defeated Big E Langston in a really competitive match. This was a very telling match for me because it was the first single's match Langston has had with a guy who is as credible as Orton. Langston held his own and really was able to adapt his offense to have fluent chemistry with Orton. During the match, Langston was able to hit a few clotheslines and follow up with a belly to belly suplex. Orton, dazed and confused, gets hit with a running splash into the corner. It looks like Langston is going to pick up a huge upset, but Orton pokes him in the eyes and hits an RKO for the win. The booking was logical and solid. It made the Intercontinental Champion look strong, but also shows us why Orton is just a tad bit better right now. (What they want us to think)

MizTV Makes a Match For Rumble

Big Show challenges Brock Lesnar for a match at the Royal Rumble. Paul Heyman comes out and accepts on behalf of his client. He says that Brock Lesnar is not hard to find if he wants to start early. The segment ends just like that.

I like this match because Big Show is more credible as a big man than Mark Henry. Overall, I think Henry would put on the better match. This is all about killing time for Brock Lesnar. Can't you see him beating Big Show, beating Henry again and stating that he is the best "big man?" After that statement, Undertaker comes out or the gong sounds. It is very simple to see how WWE is trying to put the pieces together early. I still think Taker vs. Brock is what must happen at WrestleMania.

The Shield defeated The New Age Outlaws and CM Punk. The main event featured Punk with his new buddies. Side bar: If Punk vs. Triple H happens at Mania, what is the point of Punk teaming with his best friends right now? With that being said, it is always great to see Gunn and Road Dogg in a WWE ring doing their thing. They can still electrify the crowd after all of these years. Nostalgia has not worn off from them just yet. Yes, Outlaws still got it and put on a really good match tonight with Punk. As Billy was about to hit the Fameasser, Reigns comes in and spears him in half. What a beautiful spear and a great way to, once again, highlight the best piece of The Shield right now. I can see a bit of jealously from Ambrose and Rollins coming sooner rather than later. There is a reason why Reigns is ALWAYS picking up the wins for his team.
