A British Point of View: Ultimate Hall of Fame

ultimate hall of fameThis Monday saw the announcement that the Ultimate Warrior will be the first inductee in to the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2014. Like most of the internet wrestling community, this was news that was most welcome, and by most welcome I mean that the majority instantly jumped up at the news and shook something nearby that we mentally saw as a rope!

The saga between Vince McMahon and the Ultimate Warrior has been going on for 18 years but last year when the Warrior and Vince met up and seemingly buried the hatchet we all felt that maybe more was in store for the Warrior. A few months later the he made his appearance in the WWE 2K14 video game advert (commercial for all you Americans) and we had a feeling that this might be the stepping stone to Warrior possibly being inducted in to the Hall of Fame at some point.

Previously, I always said that there were 3 wrestlers who will probably never go in to the WWE Hall of Fame. One was the Warrior, second was Macho Man and third was Owen Hart. These are people that have either had fall outs with Vince such as Macho Man and Warrior and or been unable to be mentioned due to a legal minefield in cases such as Owen’s.

The last few years have largely gone about changing these situations. Owen Hart’s death was recently featured on the 50 Year History of WWE DVD and it now seems that WWE can legally mention Owen and his accomplishments.

Warrior obviously met Vince as mentioned before but unfortunately the passing of Macho Man came before any reconciliation could be made. Vince has repaired bridges with many past superstars and I believe ultimately (excuse the pun) would have done the same with Randy Savage if the tragic events had not taken place in 2011.

With all these changes in place could this mean that for the biggest WrestleMania of all time that we get the biggest Hall of Fame class to go with it? Is it realistic to wonder whether these 3 greats will be honoured in New Orleans?

There are plenty of other deserving people who haven’t gone in yet but if this was to happen and also with the recent rumour which states that the Hall of Fame may be streamed live on the WWE Network then what better way to start it than putting on such a big show in its entirety before the 30th WrestleMania the next night.

People have said that they need people like Macho Man and Owen in the Hall of Fame for it to feel truly genuine so maybe this will help to hold the Hall in even higher regards in years to come. Maybe WWE would want to save certain wrestlers for future years but I don’t believe that there is ever a more suitable time to do this than now.

Would Warrior, Macho Man and Owen Hart headline your Ultimate Hall of Fame or would you think someone else is more deserving? Would you spread them out to headline the next few years or do you think that it’ll still never happen with these legends?

I’m now off to help my mate find some suitable face-paint so that he can make a fool of himself in his tribute to the Warrior at the New Orleans Arena this April!
