Stars In Progress: WWE’s Desperate, CM Punk’s Whiny, Hardy’s Quiet

CM PunkCM Punk – One Step Up

If Punk had legal grounds to walk away from his WWE contract, fans really don't have a right to be upset with him for doing just that. If he's unhappy, he "should" leave. He doesn't owe fans anything. It's his career; it's business.

Punk's only fault was waiting until just before RAW to do it. After the Pay-Per-View or even first thing Monday would have been acceptable in that situation. Otherwise, do right by those that came to see you on Monday's show.

Personally though, I think Punk's a little whiny. He's like the Dwight Howard of wrestling. Freakishly good at what he does, but cries like a baby when he doesn't get his way. Selfishness also plays a role in that. Oh, and extreme arrogance. Maybe even a bit of a narcissistic complex as well…

I digress.

None of that matters. At the end of the day, all that does is the fact Punk will most likely get his way. It's absolutely the smartest "business" decision he could make.

A returning CM Punk will absolutely headline the very next WrestleMania. It will be under his terms as well. Much like The Rock gets to come back and do the non-PG gimmick that got him over, Punk will get to come back dropping pipe bombs anytime he wants.

Punk wins. Fans win. Vince even wins.

The "Summer of Punk", as I like to refer to it, was one of the best periods in wrestling since the Attitude Era. But WWE screwed it up. They ended it too early and failed to ride the wave. Why? Because that wave would have resulted in Punk becoming THE guy in the company, most likely.

There were too many important people, with every bit of the narcissistic complex Punk has, not willing to let that happen. Punk has every reason to be unhappy about that.

Punk leaving was inevitable. It just happened four months earlier than most expected.

I don't believe Punk is back by this year's Mania. It's too soon, and Punk seems too smart for that. I think next year's Mania is ideal, but that would be the earliest to ensure maximum effect from his absence.

If this is all a shoot though, as I believe it to be, one thing I don't hear people talking about is Vince and Hunters' attitude toward Punk. In most cases, Vince won't let bad blood get in the way of making money. BUT…there's that infamous short list of people Vince has vowed never to work with again.

I'm just saying…it's possible. They did unfollow Punk on Twitter.
