Title This: Destination X Review “Tag Team Wrestling At It’s Finest”

The Wolves defeated The Hardy’s

destination x reviewDestination X Review kicks off with this tag team dream match.

Matt gets into the ring mid match to work on the arm of Richards. Matt and Jeff hit a double suplex for a two count. Matt continues the onslaught and wrenches the arm. After a clothesline, Jeff gets back into the ring and the Hardy’s are in total control. Whisper in the Wind, so pretty, but reversed. Richards climbs Matt’s back to interrupt it. Edwards comes into the ring and works away at both men. He flips over and hits a double hurricanranna. Double Suicide Dive and the crowd is electric. Jeff throws hits Whisper in the Wind to the outside and takes out both Wolves.

After plenty of offense from both teams, Matt hits Side Effect. Jeff heads up top and hits Swanton Bomb. Davey tosses Jeff to the outside and Matt heads up top. Top rope moonsault gives Matt only a two count. Hardy locks in the Ice Pick, which is a submission move. Jeff gets him in the same move and the champions are in trouble. Davey dropped him onto all the men. Matt gets a big kick to the stomach and both men hit the double foot stomp. Matt kicks out at two. Matt hits Twist of Fate, but Richards kicks out. Eddie kicks Matt on the top and the Wolves connect with a beautiful double team backstabber while isolated in the air.

What can you say about this match that gives it justice in words? You have to go back and watch this absolutely classic match. A few things I noticed:

1. Matt Hardy continues to be an incredible performer in the ring. Even as he gets older, it seems like he is able to reinvent himself, something that is easier said than done. You saw the old school moves from him, but he also added little pieces like a new submission move and even more focus on a ground and pound pace. If you have not seen him perform in ROH, you have missed out on someone getting better with age. He is like a fine wine.

2. The Wolves are always going to be an excellent tag team. You saw how each one is perfectly in place for every move, rarely missing a beat when each move transitions into the next. They were so smooth and worthy of the win. Beating The Hardy’s is something that should be checked off a “To-Do List.”
