Wrestlezone’s Top Ten Matches That Are Better Than a Lumberjack Match; or “Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose at WWE SummerSlam: What Could Have Been”

#10 – Luchas de Apuestas

CM PunkThis is just any match where both competitors put something of personal value on the line; in Mexico its traditionally a mask, or their own hair. In lucha wrestling, the Luchas de Apuestas generally ends a long, bitter rivalry with a stipulation that is meant for the winner to completely and utterly humiliate the loser. WWE has had a few of these, although they don’t usually announce them by name – CM Punk and Rey Mysterio fought with both hair and mask on the line at the Over the Limit PPV in 2010.

In this case, it would have to be a Hair vs. Hair match at SummerSlam. I know it sounds goofy, but if done correctly – like in the Punk/Mysterio feud – it can be extremely effective. The reason its so low on my list is that there’s a ton of better options, it doesn’t really solve the whole “Rollins escaping” factor, and honestly… I don’t want to see either of these guys lose their hair.

#9 – Three Stages of Hell

This isn’t one gimmick so much as its three gimmicks, but it’s also a very rare match stipulation that I’d like to see more of. Basically it’s a two-out-of-three match, where each fall has its own stipulation, usually increasing in intensity. This would allow Ambrose and Rollins to have their stupid Lumberjack Match, then follow that up with with two more interesting falls.
