Top 10 Moments of NXT Takeover: R Evolution – WWE’s Love Letter to Indie Fans

wwe nxtSo NXT Takeover was a pretty decent little indie show, wasn’t it?

Kevin Steen, El Generico, Pac, Kenta, Prince Devitt, Samuray del Sol…even Drake Younger made it on the show, somewhat ironically patching up Steen’s broken face.

Takeover was WWE’s love letter to the indie fan. I don’t know if that’s how Triple H meant it to go over, but that’s how it came across to me, and everyone who has followed this current crop of future WWE Superstars for the past 5-10 years.

Fans who were worried that the wrestling juggernaut would “ruin” Kevin Steen got Kevin Steen. They got Prince Devitt, in all his body-painted glory. They got the passion and fighting spirit of El Generico. I guess Drake isn’t well known for cleaning up people’s blood, necessarily, but hey…we got Drake Younger anyways!

For me, this was the show that will allow me to move forward into 2015, accepting Steen as “Kevin Owens“, Generico as “Sami Zayn“, and Devitt as “Finn Balor”. It’s never really been about the name, but the idea that these guys were truly great as world-travelling pro wrestlers, and WWE went to great lengths at Takeover to prove that they can still be great, if not better than ever.

So with all that in mind, we take a look at the Top 10 Moments of NXT Takeover: R Evolution.
