Top 5 Knockouts – Mayweather vs McGregor

Two heavyweights we’ve come to know and love for their success in the ring are none other than Mayweather and McGregor. These men have impressive performances and were able to win, when the odds were clearly stacked against them. Nevertheless, we all witnessed the power of each to dominate opponents from the first seconds to the last. To give you a good indication of the level of mastery, let’s take a deeper look into how these fighters created epic moments with the top 5 knockouts .

5. Mayweather (Mayweather vs. Ricky Hatton)

In December 2007, Mayweather went up against Hatton, who at the time had a flawless 43-0. Ricky had a strong backing with his supporters from Britain providing immense support. Against all odds, Mayweather managed to down the Brit and win in the 10th round.

McGregor (vs. Ivan Bunchinger)

In his first match after rising to the lightweight category, McGregor faced Ivan who he sent to the canvas in no time, after he landed a perfect left hand counter.

4. Mayweather (vs. Arturo Gatti)

This match featured late in Arturo’s career, yet remains as a good watch. Gatti was destroyed by Mayweather in less than four minutes –  a huge shock for Gatti to. He was hugely tipped to win that he retired the very same night he was defeated by Mayweather.

McGregor (vs. Marcus Brimage)

The impressive win over Bunchinger was followed by another equally convincing and commanding win. McGregor defeated Brimage in minutes in his UFC promotional debut. The win was brought about by a succession of both uppercuts and straight lefts.

3. Mayweather (vs. Juan Manuel Marquez)

After spending almost two years out of the spotlight after confirming that he was retiring from boxing, Mayweather decided to give it another go in 2009 with a fight against the heavy handed Marquez. The match however, proved to be easy for the retiree, as he gunned down Marquez in less than three minutes.

McGregor (vs. Dustin Poirier)

Coming into this match, McGregor was the underdog, but after the match, the world had come to know that there was a new force to reckon with in the mixed martial arts sporting fraternity. McGregor was able to strike down the heavily built American in the first round and the world came to appreciate the punching power from ‘mystic mac’.

2. Mayweather (vs. Miguel Cotto)

In one of Mayweather’s toughest matches, he went up against Miquel Cotto. Mayweather had to wait till the 12th round to defeat Cotto.

McGregor (vs. Chad Mendes)

Against the grappling American Mendes, McGregor seemed to have been down and out in the first round, but what was to come in the second round quite astonished everyone who was watching. McGregor made a brilliant comeback escaping from Mendes’ bottom position and striking strong nailed punches, took Mendes out of the game and established McGregor as the featherweight champion.

1. Maywether (vs. De la Hoya)

The match that broke records in 2007, the ‘Mayweather-De la Hoya fight’, was one of the best shows Mayweather has given us. Mayweather won the middleweight title against favourite ‘Golden Boy’ and in the process helped the match earn record breaking revenue.

McGregor (vs. Jose Aldo)

In a ‘match of 13 seconds’ – as it has come to be infamously labelled, McGregor took out Aldo who in 10 years had not tasted defeat. This was also the undisputed best pound for pound fighter in the world, but in just 13 seconds he was down and out. One left hand hook was all it took for McGregor to silence the Brazilian and many of the skeptics.
