Report: There Are Plans For Sting To Compete In AEW, He’ll Have Collaborative Relationship With Tony Khan

Sting is with All Elite Wrestling for the foreseeable future and now we have some more details on how the whole thing actually came together—and stayed under wraps until it happened on TV.

According to Sports Illustrated‘s Justin Barrasso, Sting and Tony Khan will have a collaborative relationship, contrasting the one “The Icon” had in WWE with Vince McMahon. Khan was said to have “worked tirelessly” to make the signing happen and he made the deal with Sting in secret, with no one else, including the company’s four Executive Vice Presidents, even knowing about it until it was finalized. Sources claim the EVP’s were ecstatic upon learning the big news.

As far as how the actual Dynamite appearance went down, Sting’s arrival was a carefully planned segment that always had Darby Allin and Cody Rhodes being saved from Team Taz. Additionally, Khan was “adamant” that Tony Schiavone got to make his iconic “It’s Stiiiiiiing!” call when Sting appeared on the show. Now that the appearance has happened, there’s been plenty of speculation about Sting actually wrestling in AEW. It was noted that there are plans for him to step into the ring in AEW, but it wouldn’t be a weekly thing. Barrasso also mentioned cinematic matches and tag team matches as some of the possibilities for Sting with the company.

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite is advertising Sting appearing on the show where he’ll speak to Schiavone.
