Matt Cardona Enjoying Creative Freedom, Says This Summer Has Been Amazing So Far And We’re Just Getting Into It

Matt Cardona is the talk of the wrestling town and he’s out to prove that he’s just getting started.

Matt Cardona recently spoke with WrestleZone ahead of IMPACT Wrestling’s Slammiversary pay-per-view about how his post-WWE career has flourished, and how he still has plenty left in store for fans. Cardona not only made his return to pay-per-view with a tag team win (with fiancée Chelsea Green over Brian Myers and Tenille Dashwood), but has a showdown with Nick Gage in Atlantic City this weekend for GCW.

Last year, Cardona shared his level of excitement about all of the potential matches he could have on the independent scene and other companies. The pandemic slowed things down and put some of his plans on hold, but now the country is opening up and he’s getting to be his own boss and do what he wants as he looks to write the next chapter of a brand new book in his career.

“So, when I got released last year, I was so excited to wrestle all these new people. I said it was like Christmas morning and I saw all these wrapped-up gifts and I wanted to unwrap them and wrestle all of these guys but we were in the middle of this global pandemic so there wasn’t really anywhere to go. There was nothing to really do, but now I feel like I’m finally doing it. Every week I’m wrestling somewhere different, I got IMPACT, and like you said, I got Nick Gage in GCW, I’m doing random indies,” Cardona explained, “I got the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast and now we have our own promotion, the FWF, there’s so much stuff and I’m super busy, it’s the best.

“It’s just the best having creative freedom and show up anywhere. Listen, it’s cool to create buzz, yeah, but what I’m trying to create is a life for myself and to have fun and do what I’ve always wanted to do, and this summer has been, so far, amazing and we’re just getting into it. We still got two more months of this thing,” he noted, “we got Slammiversary, live on pay-per-view, we got GCW Homecoming and we’ve got so much stuff. We’ve got the IMPACT tapings with people again. So, what’s better than having a pay-per-view match with people after we haven’t had that for so long? I can’t think of anything better.”

Fans can see Matt Cardona take on Nick Gage at night one of GCW Homecoming on July 24. Both nights of GCW Homecoming take place at the Showboat in Atlantic City on July 24 and 25.
