Report: AEW ‘Extremely Concerned’ About Rising COVID-19 Numbers Possibly Affecting Live Events

All Elite Wrestling is reportedly concerned about the rising COVID-19 numbers and the possibility that mask and safety mandates affecting the company’s live events.

Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net reports that AEW is “extremely concerned” about this trend, and he specifically named the company’s plans for big shows in Chicago, New York and St. Louis. Chicago, the planned site for AEW All Out, and New York, the planned site for AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, have taken proactive approaches to current COVID-19 surge, leading to the concern that mandates and/or restrictions could “disrupt” the planned events.

Haynes also states that, due to the recent rapid increase of COVID-19 cases, AEW has been holding internal discussions in which the company has deliberated its course of action in the event of another shutdown. He clarifies by writing that, for now, AEW is proceeding as planned, but the company will closely monitor local guidelines.

On July 27, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shared new guidelines that urged vaccinated people to wear masks indoors in areas with “substantial” and “high” transmission rates, which currently describes the majority of the United States. (More information is available here.)

Naturally, with this new guidline, it’s fair to wonder whether live sporting events, in regards to for AEW and professional wrestling, will be prohibited if this trend
continues.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
