Report: Ricky Steamboat Set To Come Out Of Retirement For Another Match At Starrcast

WWE Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat is reportedly joining Ric Flair in his return to the ring.

On May 16, “The Nature Boy” announced that he’ll be wrestling for the first time since 2011 at the Starrcast event on July 31. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Flair and FTR will face Rock ‘n’ Roll Express and “someone else.”

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that current plans call for Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, 69, to wrestle another match, and he’s set to be the “someone else” in this six-man bout. Steamboat hasn’t wrestled since 2010, when he teamed up with his son, Richie Steamboat, to face Caylen Croft & Trent Barretta. If Flair and Steamboat lace up their boots again, they’ll have competed in six different decades. They have tons of history with each other; they’ve shared the ring in some capacity almost 300 times, but they haven’t been in the same match since 1994.

Ross Sapp noted that he hasn’t confirmed that this six-man tag will be part of the show, but those involved with Starrcast have been planning it for weeks. Reportedly, part of the mindset behind having the bout is to give Flair and Steamboat memorable matches to officially conclude their in-ring careers in a manner that would exceed their previous retirement matches.

Fightful’s report also notes that the planned bout in question is set to feature plenty of Jim Crockett Promotions elements, but specific details are unclear.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
