The following is a new article from WWE.com:
“All Star” scene At Rumble
In the core of a packed locker room area within Boston’s TD Banknorth Garden, over-the-top action began even hours before the biggest Royal Rumble in history.
Populated by controller-pounding WWE Superstars, Hall of Famers and NXT Rookies, THQ’s “WWE All Stars†lounge alleviated the pressure of the pending Rumble joust with ultimate dream matchups contested exclusively in the highly anticipated game.
Though available March 29, THQ’s ring-altering game was open for play this past Sunday, giving the entire roster an opportunity to experience fantasy bouts featuring legendary grapplers like The Ultimate Warrior, Andre the Giant and Bret Hart, as well as contemporary champions like John Cena, Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston – who was among the most eager to try his hand.
“There are so many matchups that we, the WWE Universe, would love to have seen at some point,†Kingston excitedly explained. “John Cena versus The Rock, John Cena against Hulk Hogan, Kofi Kingston and Ricky “The Dragon†Steamboat, John Morrison and “Macho Man†[Randy Savage]. These are all fantasy matchups that a lot of people will be able to identify with and dreams come true.â€
Prior to his participation in the 40-Man Royal Rumble, Kingston picked up the controller for some sample play as himself and Savage. While carefully selecting his character, the Intercontinental Champion also heavily considered the special edition “All Stars†arcade paddle – a throwback nuance the Boom Squad leader was pleased to see.
“Especially these days with games, they’re so focused on being reality based,†Kingston said. “The graphics need to look so real, and the gameplay has to be real. It’s to the point where you might as well just do the game in real life.â€
“[“WWE All Starsâ€] goes back to games being games,†he added, “this is like an arcade style game. It’s really easy to pick up and play but there’s also a lot of depth to it. I think its going to be a pretty big hit.â€
If the interest of the WWE locker room was any indication, then Kofi’s assessment might prove to be an understatement. While not limbering up for the Rumble, The Shaman of Sexy parkour thrusted into the lounge and turned “Guru of Gaming†in an exhibition bout of his own, while Jerry “The King†Lawler looked on. Later, Wade Barrett sauntered in as well to take a close look at the game franchise he likely intends on headlining himself one day.
On Sunday evening, WWE officially embarked upon The Road to WrestleMania, where nostalgia and aspiration become the apex emotions among the WWE roster. Similarly, the anticipation only mounts among squared circle competitors and WWE fans alike for the guaranteed retro-style gaming event of the year in “WWE All Stars.â€
