Did You Know (9/23): WWE Steals From UFC, Undefeated Streaks

DID YOU KNOW:

The Undertaker has only tapped out once in WWE, to Kurt Angle on an episode of Smackdown just as the ref was counting to 3 on Kurt.  The move Angle used was a variation of what Undertaker now uses as a submission finisher.  Vince McMahon felt the finish of the match was botched for the live crowd so he had it retaped after the arena was emptied.

That finish was actually semi-stolen from the UFC before the big UFC explosion. In a fight at UFC 34 back in 2001, UFC legend Matt Hughes first won the Welterweight title over then-champion Carlos Newton. The finish of the match saw Newton slap a triangle choke on Hughes, who picked Newton up and pressed him against the top of the octagon. As the triangle tightened, Hughes passed out, and while falling down, slammed Newton on his head – knocking Newton unconscious. Hughes got up and it actually took a few seconds before he even realized he had won the fight and the title.
