WZ Exclusive: Behind The Scenes of the Christian/Regal Feud

I spoke with a source close to the current ECW situation today and was told the following concerning the Christian/William Regal feud and how it once again leaves Tommy Dreamer out of the mix. The lead writer for ECW is Ed Koskey, who (much like former WWE writer David Lagana) used to be one of the kids in the bleacher section of the ECW Arena in the mid 1990’s.

Koskey was under the impression that Tommy Dreamer was going to be used as "an ECW Legend" (although to Vince, there are no ECW legends) and would be the throwback guy on the roster since he held the ECW Title. However, that was not the case.

The original plan was for William Regal to get the big push he’s getting now, so consequently just one week after the Extreme Rules Match with Christian, Tommy Dreamer is back to being the guy to get everyone else over. Not quite a jobber, but an upper level jobber on the brand.

Dreamer was said to be surprised when creative threw him back into that status, but no producers (agents) spoke up for him, and Vince wanted Regal over as strong as possible to get him into the #1 contender’s spot for Christian.

While this can change again at any moment, the current thought process is that Christian and Regal can be the ones to groom the young roster on ECW, so it doesn’t matter which one is the champion and they can even trade the title back and forth. No determination has been made in either direction on the title at the moment, but Vince thinks that with Christian working against heels and Regal working against babyfaces, he has practical trainers in the ring on television with the younger guys.

This therefore leaves Dreamer out of the loop once again, and even more so once Christian and Regal are paired off with other younger guys to work with.
