Terry Funk, Dory Funk Jr. Speak On WWE HOF Induction

Matt Boone

The following is an excerpt from an article at Amarillo.com on The Funks’ induction into this year’s WWE Hall Of Fame 2009 class:

Their careers mirror how pro rasslin’ has changed, from local circuits to the marketing giant that is World Wrestling Entertainment.

The Funks have hit them all – with their signature spinning toe hold.

Their induction into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 4 in Houston during the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania will be the culmination of careers that few wrestlers can pin down.

"It is unbelievable. I’m honored and kind of just amazed after so many years of wrestling and after the support of so many people, especially the wrestling fans of Amarillo, where Terry and I started," Dory said. "If they had not been there we would not have been able to continue on. We owe so many people who backed us all the way."

"It is quite an honor. This is like the Academy Awards of professional wrestling," Terry said. "I’m elated. (The induction) is in Texas, and what better place to have it? And what better place to have grown up than in Amarillo? That makes it mean even more to me."
