NEWS and NOTES

Thursday’s edition ofthe NoseBleed Section, hosted by John Cannon and Joe Cowart, who were joined by Atlanta wrestling fan Charlie and corporate news lackey Cedric Dean, featured Julie C. Blood, co-captain and head power blocker of the Soul City Sirens roller derby squad who called in and schooled everyone on the ins-and-outs of roller derby. The second half of the show featured a minor discussion on the Starrcade Collection DVD as well. The program is a presentation of Georgia Wrestling History’s GWH Radio Network. World Wrestling Entertainment’s RAW/ECW crew will be at the Albany Civic Center in Albany, GA, tonight. Advertised: John Cena, Chris Jericho, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Jr., Christian, Kofi Kingston, Cryme Tyme, John Morrison, the Miz, Finlay, Beth Phoenix, and Melina. Bell time is 7:30 PM.

The lineup for tonight’s SmackDown broadcast on MyNetwork TV, from WWE, is as follows: the Undertaker considers Shawn Michaels’ challenge for a match at WrestleMania; Matt Hardy versus MVP in a qualifier for a spot in WrestleMania’s Money-in-the-Bank match; Chavo Guerrero, Jr., versus R-Truth; Edge and the Big Show get together to sign a contract to face each other at WrestleMania; Eve Torres versus Maryse; Matt Hardy versus Shelton Benjamin; and Triple H versus Umaga.

Tickets for the following WWE events go on sale Saturday: April 14, at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, TN; May 4, at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY; July 10, at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila, Philippines; and July 27, at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.

Lewis had been the reigning World Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Joe Stecher in St. Louis, MO, on February 21, 1928. This version was the one linked back to George Hackenschmidt.

MARCH 6, 1963 (WEDNESDAY) – COLUMBUS, GA – COLUMBUS SPORTS ARENA (Fred Ward – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Bill Sky versus Prince Omar > George Bell versus Tarzan White > Charlie Keene defeated Lenny Montana by disqualification > Chief Little Eagle defeated the Bat / Notes: It was reported that 670 were in attendance for this card. Bill Sky and Prince Omar were scheduled to wrestle each other, as were George Bell and Tarzan White, but no results were reported after the card. During the match between Chief Little Eagle and the Bat, Little Eagle removed the Bat’s mask to identify him as Joe Tomasso. This had already been done in Atlanta on January 18, 1963, but he had continued to wear the mask despite his identity being known to Atlanta fans.

MARCH 6, 1970 (FRIDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – PAUL JONES SPORTS ARENA [P] (Paul Jones – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Greg Peterson & Jim Wilson versus Chati Yokuchi & Fuji > Georgia Heavyweight Title Tournament: Les Wolff defeated Alex Perez; Nick Bockwinkel defeated Ramon Torres; Paul DeMarco defeated Pedro Valdez; Alberto Torres defeated Assassin #2; Buddy Colt versus El Mongol ruled a no contest / Notes: Greg Peterson & Jim Wilson and Chati Yokuchi & Fuji were scheduled to wrestle each other, but no results were reported after the card. The tournament was to determine a champion for the title that had been vacated on February 28, 1970, due to injuries to Doug Gilbert, and was scheduled to conclude on March 13, 1970.
