Glacier On His Career, His Booking Info, Johnny Devine’s Too

WorldWrestlingInsanity.com

Grab a coat and watch the ice.  This week, Club Runs Cold as "Glacier" himself, Ray Lloyd, joins James Guttman on ClubWWI.com for a one hour uncut shoot interview covering his entire career from top to bottom with tons of new information you won’t hear anywhere else.

The success of Ray Lloyd doesn’t rise and fall with the Glacier character.  From achievements on the gridiron and karate circuit to scenes in No Holds Barred and TV’s Burn Notice, this school teacher has excelled in more careers than most people even dream of having.  Hear about it all on ClubWWI including his storied wrestling career during WCW’s greatest days with topics like: The Huge Cost Of His Glacier Character, The Carnie Handshake, How He Paid To Save His WCW Job… Twice, The Midnight Debate With Eric Bischoff That Convinced Him To Use The Glacier Name, Dusty Rhodes, Locker Room Pet Peeves, Young Stars Who Don’t Get It, The Angle He Proposed To Work With Lance Storm, Getting Tired Of His Own Vignettes, Kanyon’s New Love Of Texting, The False Story On His Wikipedia Page, Curt Hennig, Demolition, Terry Taylor, D.D.P., Ernest Miller, and More.

A subject that often comes up on ClubWWI.com is original gimmicks.  Was Glacier the first name that WCW offered?  Were there others?  James asks and Ray answers…

"We started with about 150 names and they just kept pooling them down and pooling them down and pooling them down.  The funny thing is three of the final ten names – one of them was obviously Glacier – one of them was Cryonic, which Eric really liked.  I went through my notes the other day and just found this…"

Lloyd goes into detail on the secret meetings Eric held in order to "work the boys" and how one lead to a midnight debate between all the members of Blood Runs Cold (Kanyon and former ClubWWI.com guests Bryan Clark, Ernest Miller, and James Mitchell).  He also explains the compromise they came to and the length Bischoff went to in order to get his "pet project" over.

However, the story takes a twist.  Although Easy E pushed for Cryonic, there was another name on the final tally that, if chosen, would have drastically altered wrestling history…

"On the notes, they have the final top ten list of names they had come down to.  Now at the time, Steve Austin was up with Vince (McMahon).  He had just left WCW and was trying to figure out what he was going to come up with and, of course, he came up with Stone Cold.  Right about the time, before he came up with his, one of the final ten names on that list was ‘Stone Cold’."

Guttman and Lloyd both laugh at how it could have changed the face of the business.  Ray seems happy that didn’t happen though.

"So I just laugh my butt off and say, ‘I think they found the right guy to have that name.’"

GLACIER & JOHNNY DEVINE AVAILABLE FOR BOOKINGS

Glacier (“Sugar” Ray Lloyd)(Coach Buzz Stern) (WCW)  Ray Lloyd began his wrestling career in the late 1980s after competing for several years in the World Karate Association.  He appeared several times over the next few years for WCW, including a house show program with the Great Muta.  Due to his martial arts skills Lloyd competed in Japan for UWFI from 1993-96.  He joined WCW thereafter as the character, Glacier, who combined pro wrestling and martial arts skills.  The name symbolized the power of the elements.  His ring entrance was one of the most extravagant in professional wrestling.  After WCW he was involved in Dusty Rhodes’ Turnbuckle Wrestling promotion, and thereafter had a backstage role at TNA.   He has also worked as a stuntman and actor.

Johnny Devine (Havok) (TNA) Devine began his wrestling career in Canada in 1997 after training in the infamous Hart Family Dungeon.  In 2004 Devine joined TNA as part of Team Canada.  He left TNA briefly due to injuring, appearing once for WWE prior to returning to TNA in 2006 where he was aligned with Alex Shelly as part of Paparazzi Productions.  He then joined a group called Seratonin headed by Raven changing his name to Havok.   When that group was disbanded he found himself aligned with Team 3D as Brother Devine becoming a TNA X Division Champion.
