The Royal Rumble will be broadcast live from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI, tonight. WWE results from the tri-branded house show at the Savage Arena in Toledo, OH, on January 24: Cryme Tyme over John Morrison & the Miz; Vladimir Kozlov over Jimmy Wang Yang; Candice Michelle & Eve Torres over Beth Phoenix & Natalya; CM Punk over William Regal to retain the WWE Inter-Continental Heavyweight Title; Shelton Benjamin over R-Truth to retain the WWE US Heavyweight Title; Jack Swagger over Matt Hardy to retain the WWE ECW Heavyweight Title; and John Cena & Triple H over Randy Orton & Edge.

JANUARY 25, 1966 (TUESDAY) – MACON, GA – MACON CITY AUDITORIUM (Fred Ward – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Johnny Apollo and Bad Boy Hines wrestled to a draw > Saul Weingeroff & Karl Von Brauner defeated Derrell Cochran & Louie Tillet > US Junior Heavyweight Title Match: Billy Hines* defeated Johnny King / Notes: Saul Weingeroff managed Karl Von Brauner. It is unclear as to how Billy Hines came to be recognized as US Junior Heavyweight Champion. The last reference we have shows Don Carson defending the title against Hines on December 7, 1965, in Macon.

JANUARY 25, 1969 (SATURDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – WQXI STUDIOS (Paul Jones – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Dale Lewis and El Mongol wrestled to a draw > Bob Armstrong and Paul DeMarco wrestled to a draw > Georgia Tag Team Title Match: Assassin #2 & the Professional defeated Alberto & Ramon Torres* to win title / Notes: This was taped for the “Atlanta TV Wrestling” television program hosted by Ed Capral. Jack Crawford managed Dale Lewis. Crawford told Capral that both El Mongol and the Professional were scared of Dale Lewis, who had issued a challenge against the winner of their match in an effort to secure the top contender position for Gene Kiniski’s NWA World Heavyweight Title. He also claimed that he believed one of the Assassins to be Bobby Graham. In a response to the NWA investigation into his tactics against El Mongol from their match on January 24, 1969, the Professional told Capral that he had never used a foreign object during his career, and that the only reason he knocked Mongol cold with his head butt was that he had an unusually hard head. He also countered that Leo Garibaldi, referee for the match, had allowed Mongol to use illegal karate chops on him during the match, claiming Garibaldi was biased and partial toward Mongol. Alberto & Ramon Torres had been the reigning Georgia Tag Team Champions since they defeated the Assassins on December 25, 1968, in Savannah.

JANUARY 25, 1972 (TUESDAY) – MACON, GA – MACON CITY AUDITORIUM (Fred Ward – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Midget Match: Farmer Pete defeated Little Bruiser > Pat & Mike Kelly and Billy Spears & Assassin #1 wrestled to a draw > Joe Turco defeated Cisco Grimaldo > Macon Tag Team Title Match: Rocket & Flash Monroe defeated Bill Dromo & Bob Armstrong* to win title > Georgia Heavyweight Title Match (DQ Rule Waived / No TL): El Mongol defeated Buddy Colt* to win title / Notes: Bill Dromo & Bob Armstrong had been the reigning Macon Tag Team Champions since they defeated Buddy Colt & Big John on November 16, 1971, in Macon. Buddy Colt had been billed as the Georgia Heavyweight Champion since June 18, 1971.
