DVD Review: WWE Cyber Sunday 2008

Your vote counted on November 4th and, according to WWE, it counted on October 16th. Suffice it to say, the latest interactive show features strong matches, lovely ladies, and a bit of nostalgia.

Showing up on DVD this coming Tuesday, November 25th, Cyber Sunday starts with a montage of WWE wrestlers/superstars/entertainers telling fans not to vote and, like a politician, flip-flop by imploring them to text, text, and text again and vote on the various pay-per-view match stipulations and opponents.

Standout bouts include the Undertaker vs. the Big Show. In an era where wrestlers fly around with the greatest of ease, these two veterans demonstrate that big men can still bring down the house. Speaking of flying, Evan Bourne made his own splash in a loss to ECW champ Matt Hardy. A big man (Kane) vs. a flyer (Mysterio) is hard to make believable, but these two did it.

Downside? Sorry, guys, I will cite the eye candy. The Diva Halloween Contestâs only challenge was for some of the ladies to simply complete a sentence. Victoria must have drawn the short stick as she was a âBanana.❠Yes, you read that right. The costume featured the bottom part of the banana protruding just a bit below the Diva’s waistline, if you know what I mean. If that wasn’t bad enough, carpal tunnel comments by Jerry Lawler were just downright creepy. I truly thought the âPuppies❠era was over.

Other thoughtsâ¦

Perhaps my favorite vote was for the ECW championship opponent. 6% for Mark Henry. Note to WWEâ¦

The comedy stylings of Santino Marella were once again on display as he faced the Honky Tonk Man. Runners-up Roddy Piper and Golddust made cameo appearances at the end of the bout. âHot Rod❠has now taken to wear a plain black kilt. Now THAT may have been a skirt.

While Iâm on the subject of nostalgia, Steve Austin made a great return and was looking better than ever. 74%? Fans still love âStone Cold,❠yet he still resists the siren call of the ring. And Triple Hâs act is becoming nostalgic in its own right. Or it’s just growing old. He needs a new entrance that does not involve expectorating water.

Overall, a solid and fun show. DVD extras include a Cyber Sunday preview match featuring Shelton Benjamin vs. R-Truth for the US title and the IC title match contenders discussing who the greatest champ of all time was.
