There Are Still Good Promoters Out There

I was just talking to the World Famous Disco Inferno (Glenn Gilberti), and he said I could add him to the list of wrestlers screwed over by West Virginia’s own, Damien Lee.

Disco suggested I balance the reports on bad promoters by “outing” a few good promoters. Not that I want to be known for taking Disco’s advice, but when somebody is right, they are right.

There are good promoters out there, guys who care about the fans, and even care about the wrestlers. These are promotions that always pay, and from whom I’d take a check, no questions asked.

And so here are four examples, the Ying to the Yang of the deadbeats I’ve been writing about to date. These are some of the good guys.

Henry Hubbard of ICW Wrestling http://icwrestling.com/

This Missouri based promotion has been in business since the mid-1980s. Most of the shows are bought shows, many on military bases, and all over the world. I’ve worked with Henry booking talent for quite a few years now. There’s has never been a payment problem. Flights are always bought on time. He treats the talent with respect.

Jersey All-Pro Wrestling http://www.japw.net/

The team at JAPW do a very good job, Fat Frank, Jeff Shapiro, Pierre and the others I’ve dealt with over the years. Again never a payment nor flight issue with these guys, and the shows are good, and draw. Crazy. I see this as New Jersey’s best promotion, and one of the best promoting in the NE.

Ring Of Honor http://www.rohwrestling.com/

I’ve been booking wrestlers into ROH since it started…Jimmy Rave, AJ Styles, Matt Sydal, Delirious, Daizee Haze etc. ROH is a great Indy, and is well run. I never really dealt with Cary Silkin, and there were times Gabe Sapolsky was grumpy with me or me him, but I never had to worry about fees being paid nor flights being bought. This promotion even entered into merchandise deals with some of the wrestlers I represented where the wrestlers got paid for merchandise in their name and trust me that’s not common. Syd Eick was my contact on business issues and was always professional.

Maryland Championship Wrestling http://www.marylandwrestling.com/

What JAPW is to New Jersey, Maryland Championship Wrestling is to Maryland. Promoter, Danny McDevitt, promotes good shows, draws well, pays fairly, and is a pleasure to deal with. I’ve never sent anyone to this promotion who didn’t want to return. A class act!

OK, there are 4 of the good guys. I’m not saying they are perfect nor that I’ve never had issues with them or them with me now and then, but no problem ever had to do with somebody not getting paid, flights not being bought, nor false promotion.

These guys and these promotions are professional and responsible, and are credits to the Professional Wrestling business. No “shady” business here.
