Mixed martial arts free agent Tito Ortiz recently told MMAJunkie.com that he is going under the knife. â<80><9c>Iâ<80><99>m getting surgery â<80>¦ for my lower back,â<80> Ortiz told MMAJunkie.com. â<80><9c>Iâ<80><99>ve had a problem for the last five years, so Iâ<80><99>m finally going to get the surgery done. Iâ<80><99>ll be out for about six months, but Iâ<80><99>ll be back to fight for another six years. Iâ<80><99>m really excited.â<80>
Ortiz went into further detail about the procedure, and how he expects for the surgery to help bring him back to his old championship form. â<80><9c>I have a bulging disc between L4 and L5 and S1, so theyâ<80><99>ve got to go in and fuse it,â<80> Ortiz stated. â<80><9c>(Itâ<80><99>s) the same thing that Nate Quarry got. So I get it done, and Iâ<80><99>ll be able to wrestle the way I used to wrestle.â<80>
Assuming that his surgery goes successfully, Ortiz will be out of action for at least six months, however that doesnâ<80><99>t mean that a deal canâ<80><99>t be made for his services before then. In fact, Ortiz stated that he is in serious talks with EliteXC and something could be finalized within the month. â<80><9c>With EliteXC and CBS and Showtime backing me on this, itâ<80><99>s a possibility that we might get something finished before the monthâ<80><99>s over,â<80> Ortiz said. â<80><9c>And the UFC actually has the option to match [any offer]. If they match it, fighters are going to be even more happy because Iâ<80><99>ll do it with the UFC. But if I donâ<80><99>t do it with the UFC, Iâ<80><99>ll do it with EliteXC and CBS.â<80>
According to TVByTheNumbers.com, Elite XC drew 4.38 million viewers last night â<80>” an increase of nearly 1.5 million from â<80><9c>Unfinished Businessâ<80> in July. This number is a lot better than their prior show back in July, which was considered a major disappointment. Here’s the ratings history of EliteXC’s live events on CBS:
May 31 – â<80><9c>Saturday Night Fightsâ<80>: 1.9/6 share (4 million viewers)
The success of “Heat” should be enough for CBS to air a fourth event in 2009. On a sour note, all three of EliteXC’s live events on CBS were beat out by â<80><9c>Americaâ<80><99>s Most Wantedâ<80> (FOX) in the 18-49 demographic.
