BSE Cross-Canada Tour Information

BSE Wrestling, the company that has hosted Lance Storm’s retirement match, Chris Kanyon’s last match, and Kurt Angle’s only Canadian independent wrestling show, is undergoing a major cross-Canada tour. Joining the tour: Trailer Park Boys’ Mr Lahey and Randy, Traci Brooks, Rhino, Joe E Legend, and Murat

North Bay, Ontario

A BSE body-slamming good time

Admission price for a kid’s under-12 ticket: $10.

One bag of popcorn: $3.

The look on Noah Cote’s face while watching his first ever live-action wrestling match: Priceless.

That’s what Noah’s dad, Sylvain, was thinking Sunday afternoon during the Blood, Sweat and Ears tour’s third stop in North Bay in less than two years.

The revved up six-year-old, glued to his seat until intermission, got his first taste of ringside action as the upstart wrestling company based out of Mississauga played a six-card match in front of about 300 people at the West Ferris Community Arena. By all accounts, Noah was enjoying it, judging by the slack-jawed look on his face.

For Sylvain, watching his little boy’s enjoyment was more fun than the action in the squared ring.

I’m watching him, he’s a funny kid,” Sylvain said of his trash-talking son, who let the bad guys know his displeasure with a rambunctious boo or get him” and gave the good guys a holler of support once in a while.

He’s a big heckler, too.”

Noah had plenty of heels to heckle Sunday as the six-match card featured a balanced lineup of heroes and zeroes, including local good guy John Johnny J” Patrie, who wrapped up the show with a tag-team championship match as part of the All-Starters.

The afternoon entertainment also featured a pair of heels from the Canadian comedy hit Trailer Park Boys as trailer park supervisor Jim Lahey and his cheese-burger-eating, bubble-gut sidekick Randy regaled the crowd with their shenanigans — in Randy’s case, bouncing into the ring wearing only a pair of Eddie Bauer boxing shorts and proclaiming himself to be the Cholesterol Kid.

The second stop on the BSE’s cross-Canada tour, the show also helped raise money for the United Way through ticket sales.

Apparently, the lineup was irresistible to Noah.He saw posters around town and ended up dragging his dad out for the show.

It was all him,” Sylvain said. Noah was the one that wanted to come to the show.”

Not so for Katie and Nathan Miller. Their decision to spend a Sunday afternoon watching spandex-clad guys throw each other across the ring was completely mutual. In fact, their love of wrestling was what got the married couple together in the first place.

It was the reason we got married,” Katie said before Nathan interjected.

It was one of the reasons,” he said.

The couple has been to every show in North Bay since the BSE arrived here for their first act in April 2007.

Since then they’ve also made a trek up to Timmins for the BSE Gold Rush event.

Part of their love for the tour, which is affiliated with TNA wresting, is that they enjoy the intimate and up-close-and-personal feel of the shows.

We all see the superstars on TV, so this is a way to see where some of these guys come from,” Katie said, noting that one of the tour’s wrestlers, Textbook” Tyson Dux just signed a contract with TNA wrestling.

Another reason for their passion for the BSE, when their daughter, Liberty, reaches four years of age in a few summers, they can come as a family without worrying much about the bad language and adult content of other wrestling circuits.

She loves wrestling, too,” Nathan said. She’s been watching it with us since she was born.”

BSE Wrestlers tour with Randy & Mr Lahey (Trailer Park Boys) in support of United Way

From August 10 to August 26, BSE will embark on an 11-stop tour spanning Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, in support of the United Way. They will be in Sault Ste Marie on Tuesday, August 12

From Sunday August 10 until Sunday August 17, BSE will be joined by Trailer Park Boys characters Randy and Mr. Lahey, who will perform part of their comedy act at the BSE event and the other half while hosting the official BSE after party. Check www.bloodsweatandears.com for venues for both the event and the after party.

From Friday, August 15 to Tuesday, August 27, BSE will be joined by the “World Champ” Joe E Legend. A former WWE and TNA superstar and a current Heavyweight Champion in 5 different countries in Europe and Africa, the proud Canadian returns to Canada for a series of matches in hopes to add Canada to his list of championship countries. As he proudly boasts, “Heroes come and go but there is only one Legend!”

The major reason for BSE’s cross provincial endeavour is for charity. All proceeds of the tour will benefit the United Way.

“BSE prides itself on giving back to the communities it performs in”, mentions Arda Ocal, co-owner of BSE. In Brampton, BSE is partnered with the Brampton Neighbourhood Resource Centre, a United Way affiliated charity (www.bnrc.org). Each event, 15-20 troubled youth enjoy free tickets to the event, a meet greet with wrestlers and a pizza party before the show.

In January 2008, BSE traveled to Iqaluit Nunavut to host 2 sold out shows. In the days leading up to the event, Ocal and several BSE wrestlers visited the youth corrections centre, conducted an assembly at elementary, middle and high schools, and enjoyed a traditional meal and games with underprivileged youth in the community.
