WWE Wins Lawsuit Over Rights To Former Superstar’s Name

Judge Marvin H. Shoob dismissed a case last week brought against the WWE by CCP hf and CCP North America regarding the rights to the name of former WWE wrestler, Gangrel. The case was dismissed on June 30th as Shoob’s ruling decreed that CCP’s usage of the name was “insufficient to allege trademark rights”.

CCP claimed that the WWE continued to use the name without permission after David Heath’s run in the WWE through 2003, despite having licensed the right to use the name prior to Heath being hired at that time. The WWE filed a motion to dismiss the case due to trademark law and since CCP couldn’t prove their case, the judge sided with the WWE.
