UFC 79: Nemesis PPV Results: Hughes-GSP, Liddell-Silva

Last night was the long awaited UFC 79: NEMESIS Pay-Per-View. It was a great show and the two top fights lived up to the hype. Here are quick results from the event:

— Georges St. Pierre defeated Matt Hughes via submission (armbar) at 4:54 of Round Two to become the Interim UFC Welterweight Champion. Pierre dominated this from start to finish. After it was over, Hughes was gracious in defeat and said this may be his final fight.

— Chuck Liddell defeated Wanderlei Silva via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27). Liddell was the clear winner. Both men threw and received some major punches. Chuck bloodied Silva pretty bad and definitely made the statement that he wants to get back on top of the light heavyweight division.

— Lyoto Machida defeated Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou via submission (arm triangle choke) at 4:20 of Round Two. Sokoudjou came out in a “Predator” mask. That was about all he did. Disappointing showing for Sokoudjou, who got dominated in his UFC debut.

— Rich Clementi defeated Melvin Guillard via submission (rear no choke) at 4:40 of Round One.

— Eddie Sanchez defefeated Soa Palalei via TKO (strikes) at 3:24 of Round Three. Rough fight with 2 brawlers throwing bombs. Palalei got bloody.

— Manvel Gamburyan defeated Nate Mohr via submission (ankle lock) at 1:31 of Round One. Mohr appeared to be injured by Manny’s submission.
