TNA Impact Review 1/06/07

âBig Poppa Pumpâ Scott Steiner, Triple X (âFallen Angelâ Christopher Daniels, Senshi, and âPrimetimeâ Elix Skipper), Petey Williams, and VKM (BG & Kip James) all showed up to the Impact Zone with briefcases in had they had won at the Turning Point Pay Per View this last Sunday. I have to say that it was really nice to see all of these athletes get a push as I believe all of them are deserving. The question I have relates to whether or not the Big Bad Booty Daddy is going to get one more title run as TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
The show started with a rather interesting match between LAX vs. Black Reign and Rellik. Hey Mike Tenay! Is that killer spelled backwards? I always love hearing the entrance music that Homicide and Hernandez comes out to. It fits their gimmick perfectly. During the match I was checking for holes in Rellik’s back caused by the tacks Abyss slammed him on this last Sunday. Although LAX is the better team in my opinion, I am not a fan of seeing certain wrestlers lose all the time such as Rhodes and Rellik. TNA will kill off their careers if they keep burying them every match they’re in. I am still not buying the Rock N Rave Connection. Also, it’s kind of obvious who the masked female member of LAX is. Just ask Kevin Thorne.
Where is Jeff Jarrett? Please….come back! Jay Lethal is still nailing the Machismo gimmick. Could he actually make a career out of this? Kurt Angle sported a nice looking suit tonight. The Olympic Gold Medalist is getting more GQ every day. Christian Cage vs. Robert Roode could be an outstanding feud. When Roode looked at him real serious and said âI am not AJâ I got goosebumps.
The focus then shifted to the TNA Knockouts which saw Women’s Knockout Champion, Gail Kim take on ODB. ODB is quickly becoming a fan favorite and I agree. I didn’t realize Gail Kim was such a scrapper out there. Big win for ODB. I look forward to the day we see Awesome Kong and ODB get it on. No offense to Kim, but Kong will one day destroy her.
I feel the end of Triple X is near. (I know so) Senshi is going out like the pro he is. Tomko is headed towards a singles push, I can feel it. The next match was the beginning of the end for Triple X as Daniels took on Senshi for the briefcase he won at Turning Point. Poor Elix had to referee the match between his two partners. Once Triple X crumbles, what will âPrimetimeâ do? Hermie Sadler joined the broadcast booth during the match. Hermie Sadler? Please….just because you can’t drive, don’t think you can just fall into pro wrestling for a career. Whose mistake was it to bring this fool in? Stick to racing Hermie! Christopher Daniels ends up winning the briefcase by defeating Senshi. That’s a shocker!
Triple X is finished, but not VKM too? Is BG running solo again? Could Father Mitchell be Abyss’s daddy? Petey Williams does have a solid physique, but I was more impressed with his work on the microphone tonight. Could this be the start of something good? The Angle Alliance along with Christian and Roode? Almost too good to be true. I looks like gang warfare is back. It also looks like Kevin Nash and Samoa Joe kissed and made up.
How many more times are we going to have to listen to Brother Ray flap his gums in one night? Thankfully, he backed it up in what I thought was the best match of the evening. Team 3D along with Johnny Devine took on Black Machismo and The Motor City Machineguns in a memorable ladder match with the X-Division title hanging high above the ring. The inverted hurricanrana that Chris Sabin pulled off was very impressive. You had a feeling this would be the fight of the night. This would have been a better match to put in the Turning Point PPV, but I am glad most of us got to see it for free. I guess TNA felt they owed the fans after a lackluster pay per view. It looks like Johnny Devine might be headed for an X-Division title shot. Jim Cornette is going to blow a gasket one of these days!
The main event of the evening could have easily been the match of the night as well. In a star studded main event you had The Angle Alliance, Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, and Tomko along with Christian and Roode took on the team of Kevin Nash, Samoa Joe, Kaz, Booker T., and Eric Young. 5 former/current World Champions were involved in the match. I still can’t buy into Eric Young being shoved into the main event. I respect the man, but I could think of a dozen others that worked just as hard to be there. Anyway, the funniest part of the night was when Kevin Nash faked the jump over the top ropes. His sense of humor is great and he really belongs in TNA.
Kudos to TNA for not mentioning or rehashing the end of Turning Point. This Impact was better than the pay per view. After a great main event match up, I got the feeling that the TNA I know is back! I guess we are all allowed one slip up. At the end of the show Tomko leaves, AJ becomes peacemaker, while Christian gets pummeled by Roode and Angle. This dysfunctional family was bound to implode. Looks like the Coalition and the Alliance are through. I give the show an A- and would recommend you catch the replay on Saturday.
