Orlando Quinones’ Take On Monday Night Raw: 10/22

Hello wrestling fans. Thanks for taking time out to check out my take on this weekâs edition of Monday Night Raw. Now this is the final Raw promoting WWEâs next pay per view, Cyber Sunday, so I am really expecting a great show.

Tonightâs edition of Raw opens up with Mr. Kennedy in the middle of the ring doing a promo on Jeff Hardy and Shawn Michaels. Itâs great to see WWE use one of their up and coming superstars with great mic skills and have him open Raw instead of Mr. McMahon. I think it was a great change of pace and it set up the main event later on in the night.

Next up is the 6 person mixed tag team match featuring Paul London, Brian Kendrick, and Mickie James taking on Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch, and the sexy Melina. I am not too interested in the tag team division these days but I have to say I was pretty impressed with this match. What a great finish and Mickie James and Melina added to this match as well. What does Mickie have up her sleeve? I guess we have to wait and see this Sunday.

Nowâs itâs time for Cody Rhodes to take on Shelton Benjamin. It was interesting to see Shelton diss Cody backstage. Oddly enough, I think Shelton wearing sunglasses helped him with his promo. He seemed pretty believable as a bully. It was cool to see Cody upset Benjamin in their match and somewhat earn Bob Hollyâs respect.

Now when we come back from commercial, we are joined in the ring by D.H. Smith, whoâs the son of the late Davey Boy Smith. Heâs set to take on Carlito and dedicates this match to his dad. I was really into this match as I have never seen D.H. Smith in action, but Iâve heard a lot about him via the internet. Before we get to the match, letâs pause for a secondâ¦.let me ask you a question. Being most of us grew up on Davey Boy Smith, did watching D.H. Smith on Raw make you feel just a little old? Wow! But getting back to the match, I thought it was a decent one. It was cool watching the son of Davey Boy Smith defeat the son of Carlos Colon in his first match on Raw. This debut reminded me of The Rockâs debut at Survivor Series 1996.

Next we, see a backstage showdown between Beth Phoenix and Candice Michelle. What a horrible job of acting. Watching these two stare at each other and recite rehearsed lines was hilarious.

The next bout features the 300lb plus Samoan, Umaga, taking on Hornswoggle. Now this match never happened being Triple H, whoâs been nursing sore ribs, comes out to confront Umaga thus giving us a preview of what we will see this Sunday at âCyber Sundayâ. I feel like we havenât seen a legitimate ringside/street fight in a long time. The whole scene was great with neither man backing down. On a side note, is it me or Umaga is using different shampoo on his hair? Ahh, never mind!

Now hereâs the part of the show that I hateâ¦.âThe WWE Diva Search Contestâ. I could care less about the 3 Diva Finalists. I donât know why we go through this every year, because we all know that no matter who wins, we are going to see a least three of these contestants as either a backstage interviewer, a manager/valet, or even as wrestlers in the WWE. What a waste of time!

Next up is Santino Marella and the lovely Mah-rrria! He cuts the most annoying promos and I love it because itâs so entertaining. He briefly gets interrupted by the âSave US❠promo. Itâs funny how he blames the whole thing on Stone Cold. Santino is then joined in the ring by âMr. Damn❠himself, Ron Simmons. After a very quick match, Santino is disqualified for delivering a low blow to Simmons. I really enjoy Santino as a heel.

Letâs move on to the WWE Womenâs Championship match between Beth Phoenix and Candice Michelle. I have to say I love Bethâs entrance music. Is it me or does Beth gets sexier every week? At first, I was surprised they would give this match so much time, being it was a two out of three falls match, but in the end I thought it was a decent match until Candice was injured. I feel you also have to give Candice credit though because just by watching her, you could tell sheâs been giving it her all. (P.S. I just wrote that just in case she is legitimately injured)

Finally, it time for our much anticipated main event. Shawn Michaels and Jeff Hardy set to take on WWE Champion Randy Orton and Mr. Kennedy. This was a great up tempo match up with the crowd into it the whole time. One thing that I love about Shawn Michaels is that heâs such a perfectionist. When we see him mess up a reverse neck breaker on Kennedy, you could see the disgust on his face. We see Jeff Hardy get the win for the Hardy/Michaels team and Michaels ends the night with ANOTHER super kick to Randy Orton, knocking him out and setting up the final touches for their match this Sunday.

I really enjoyed tonightâs edition of Raw with highlights that included 1) the debut of D.H. Smith, 2) the street fight between Umaga and Triple H, and 3) finally the main event of Shawn Michael and Jeff Hardy taking on Randy Orton and Mr. Kennedy.
