While the investigation of Chris Benoit will continue on, some interesting things have been revealed by The Wrestling Observer in what could explain Benoit’s state of mind over the last few years leading into last week’s tragedy.
According to reports, Benoit was said to have been really broken up by the death of Johnny Grunge in February of 2006, who was his neighbor. Benoit was also reportedly upset about the death of Victor “Black Cat” Mar, considered to be Benoit’s best friend in Japan.
Eddie Guerrero’s death was also very hard on Benoit. He reportedly weeped uncontrollably at Guerrero’s funeral according to witness accounts. Nancy reportedly bought Chris a journal after Eddie’s passing and Chris used to write letters to him as he thought it was normal and helped him feel like he was talking to Eddie.
Benoit and Nancy had always had marriage problems since day one according to people close to the family and the police are looking at one theory that she may have been ready to leave him, causing Benoit to snap the way he did. One report has also described Nancy as a quote “basket case” when she found out about the passing of Sherri Martel, whom she was friends with.
While we many truly never know the reason behind this tragedy, more information continues to pile out every day and could help provide some answers.
