Benoit Update: The Doctor, Other Wrestlers, Warrior

Chris Benoitâs doctor, Dr. Phil Astin has been bonded out of jail after posting a $125,000 bond. Dr. Astin has been released to house arrest and will be wearing a monitoring device to track his whereabouts.

Dr. Phil Astin was indicted on 7 counts on Monday related to allegedly improperly prescribing prescriptions to unnamed patients. Apparently there are no indictments directly tied to the Benoit Family Tragedy, however other charges may be forthcoming.

The Ultimate Warrior was on “Hannity & Colmes” last night on FOX News. Warrior said that in regards to the Benoit tragedy, it was not steroid use, but steroid abuse.

Warrior pointed out that the world of body building has not been rocked with premature deaths like professional wrestling has. He used this as a claim that the problem isn’t steroids but the abuse of steroids.

He said that wrestlers who were passing away at a young age were likely dying for other reasons or taking drugs other than steroids.

Fox 5 in Atlanta are reporting that other wrestlers are apparently being tied to Dr. Phil Astin, who has been indicted for improperly prescribing a variety of controlled substances. Federal authorities are claiming that Astin prescribed Benoit a 10 month supply of steroids every 3-4 weeks for the last year although indictments on Monday were not related to the Chris Benoit. Dr. Astin’s attorney has said that no steroids were ever prescribed to Chris Benoit.

Fox 5 also reported that investigators have the medical records of other pro wrestlers who were patients of Dr. Astin in their possession. These were the records along with items seized last week in the raids of Dr. Astin’s office.
