More On TNA’s iMPACT! Rating & Why It Was So Bad

As reported earlier, the 4/20 edition of TNA iMPACT! drew a final 0.9 cable rating. At the time, the lead-in numbers for UFC Unleashed and The Ultimate Fighter 3 were not known. Those numbers are now out and it most likely wasn’t the news TNA was looking for.

UFC Unleashed at 9pm scored a 1.4 rating with a 2.1 share, while The Ultimate Fighter 3 at 10pm drew a 1.9 rating with a 3.0 share. This shows that TNA was unable to hold the UFC audience heading into iMPACT! during the 11pm timeslot, something they were able to do last week with the strong 1.1 rating off the slightly higher 1.3 lead-in rating with The Ultimate Fighter.

Although this might turn out to be a one week occurrence for TNA, it still might be a strong message to management that they may need to re-think how they book iMPACT! every week. During last week’s Thursday debut on April 13, the show kicked off halfway through the X Division Title Match between Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe, drawing a strong quarter hour rating. This week, the show kicked off with a solid, but not as eventful Team Canada vs. Team USA match. Taking into account two other slighty uneventful matches with Sting’s Army (AJ Styles, Rhino & Ron Killings) against The Diamonds In The Rough and Jeff Jarrett & AMW against Team 3D, the show as a whole didn’t quite hold up as well as it did the week prior, especially considering it was the “go home” show for the Lockdown PPV tonight.
