There are conflicting reports going around as to the degree of coaching Joey Styles received at the ECW PPV. PWTorch.com reported that both Kevin Dunn and Jim Ross communicated with Styles prior to the PPV; Heyman then produced Styles live at the PPV, with some emphasis on a WWE style. PWInsider.com, however, insists that while Heyman did do the producing, Styles was told to be the ‘ECW’ Joey Styles. The website also denies that Ross ever spoke with Styles and claims that only Cole and Tazz were seen giving advice to Styles and Foley.
Most backstage are disappointed with the follow-up to the ECW PPV on this week’s WWE television. With buyrate estimates ranging from 300,000-900,000 (fantastic anywhere in that range), the feeling is that WWE missed a great business opportunity.
