Wrestlemania Preview Show

Thursday afternoon from 5pm to 6pm, the “McDonnell/Douglas Show” had its annual Wrestlemania preview show. Unfortunately, this year The Big Schwag wasn’t part of the show, but for the first time ever, Joe’s partner Doug Kirkorian decided to stay for the show (normally he skips the hour, but this year he decided to stay). The highlights of the show were calls by “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Rob Van Dam.

First up, the “Texas Rattlesnake” called in. The call was somewhat of a surprise, but he was listening to the show and felt like calling the guys. Austin was on his way to an appearance on the “Dennis Miller Show” when he made the call. During the interview he brought up his last appearance on the show and talked about how he really enjoyed it, especially due to the fact that one of his favorite athletes Sugar Ray Leonard was in studio while he was there. Joe brought up the fact that they received a lot of positive e-mails during the show and that the listeners really enjoyed the interplay between Austin and Leonard. Doug also mentioned the article he wrote on Austin in the Long Beach Press-Telegram and the dinner he and Austin had at a local restaurant. Austin then brought up his upcoming appearance on “Piper’s Pit” this Sunday and promised there would be some ass kicking and that beer would be involved.

After a commercial break, “The Whole F’n Show” Rob Van Dam called the show. He was on his way to the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. for the Superstar Video Game challenge. Rob thanked Joe and Doug for the remote the boys did at his Five Star Comics store. He especially thanked Doug for the column he wrote about him in the Press-Telegram. Rob then took time to promote that evening’s appearance by Chris Benoit as well as the upcoming appearances by Kane and Bret Hart on Friday and Saturday respectively.

After the Van Dam segment Doug and Joe took calls from the listeners. In one humorous call, one listener suggested that oft-injured Dodger outfielder J.D. Drew should go to Wrestlemania just to watch the Shawn Michaels/Kurt Angle match due to the fact that the two of them were wrestling after all the injuries they have suffered in their careers while Drew has a tendency to sit out games for such small injuries as a hangnail/

It was a really great hour and Joe and Doug really had great interviews with Austin and Van Dam.
