John Cena Talks on WrestleMania 21, JBL, Rapping and More

Thanks to Michael Gawda for sending this in:

The interview in total lasted about 10 minutes. There are two ‘interviewees’ one male and female. The male one asks Cena how its going with Cena replying ‘It’s going good, WrestleMania’s coming up’ the male interviewer tells Cena he’s excited but Cena says he’s really excited.

The woman asks ‘What does Dr. of Thuganomics’ mean. Cena says it’s how he does things in the Ring. He does it differently then others. He’s not one of the guys that has long hair, long leather boots. Everybody has their own style but that’s not his thing. He then has a mini-US title belt on his wrist and spins it (looks very cool). The male guys asks him ‘does that mean you are a bad dude’ and Cena replies by saying ‘no, no that just means I’ve got my PHD in Thuganomics.

They then move onto the actual WrestleMania itself. Cheap plug for it on Sky Box Office and then a question comes up ‘What does it feel like to be Main Eventing WrestleMania after kicking it off last year’. Cena says it feels great, he’s ‘talked a lot of smack about wanting to Main Event WrestleMania and now he’s here. It’s a great feeling but on the other hand it’s put up or shut up time’ He goes on to say in Wrestling there’s no ‘off season. They work 52 weeks a year and WrestleMania is the kind of end of the season if there was ever an end. It’s 21 years in the making; it’s become the biggest Extravaganza in Sports Entertainment. It can either make or break your career.’

They then talk about his match. Cena says ‘I’ve got a fight against John Bradshaw Layfield for the WWE Championship, now this is big. I did have the US Championship and he snuck away and took it from me and blew it up with explosives’ (I haven’t been watching Smackdown lately so I wouldn’t know)

The man asks ‘are you gonna beat him up?’ Cena sniggers and says ‘Am I gonna beat him up? Not only am I gonna beat him up, I’m gonna take his title and do a little thuganomics.

The female presenter then says ‘So John you’re my age’. Cena swiftly says ‘So we have something in common’ She then asks ‘So many people want to know how you get into Wrestling?’ Cena says ‘I watched it as a kid, I grew up on Hip-Hop and Professional Wrestling. It was only until after I graduated college I knew that I had to go to school, learn your craft and hopefully get seen by the right people. Then I got my breaks, made most of the things happen and now I’m here.

Another question, ‘I’d like to be a wrestler when I’m older, what’s the best advice you could give me’ Cena says ‘Work hard and don’t give up. It’s a case of talent but you have to truly believe in what you do. If you perform in front of 20,000 or 3 people you gotta stick with it and do what you gotta do’

He also says that he played NCAA Football and was an All-American but it was nothing like what he does nowadays but it’s something that he’s most passionate about and he wouldn’t give it up for anything.

They go on to his ‘rapping’. Cena plugs his album coming out May 10th.

They then get another Q, who is Cena’s biggest influence in Rap and Hip-Hop. Cena says that basically people thought Hip-Hop was gonna be another ‘Disco’ but it’s outlasted anything and he’s feeling anyone that’s out there.

He then does a freestyle which was very impressive.

The woman then asks him ‘so do I need to ask you what you would be doing if you weren’t wrestling’. Cena cheekily replies ‘hopefully I’d be doing something with you. Maybe a casual evening or something. He then gets asked, so what do you need to be a WWE Diva and Cena says, ‘you need your smile, you need your character, energy’ He then says that she has his vote for ‘honorary nomination for WWE Diva 2005’

Cena then demonstrates the F-U on the woman and he teaches her the ‘you can’t see me’. I think Cena liked the woman presenter….

Then the ending, Cena has 30 seconds left. Plugs the WrestleMania PPV, says ‘make sure to tune in, Sky Box Office, Smackdown every Friday on Sky Sports and right after WrestleMania he’ll be kicking it in the UK’

Then the presenter says ‘you’ll be like David Beckham’ Cena replies ‘I’ll be kicking it like David Beckham, but I can’t quite bend it like Beckham’

Then ‘great to have you John’ That’s a wrap.

Overall Cena was very entertaining and funny. They handled WrestleMania well and Cena plugged his match with JBL.
