New & Extensive Backstage Details On Foley-Flair Fight

By now, everyone knows about the newsmaking fight between Ric Flair and Mick Foley. Foley refused to shake Flair’s hand, before asking the legend to sign a copy of “To Be The Man” for charity. Flair took the action as hostile and punched Foley in the face. The fight was broken up.

What has not been reported is that the incident did not stop at that point. Flair continued insulting Foley for being a “glorified stuntman,” and Foley, alluding to an incident with Flair and Bischoff, asked Arn Anderson to lock the two in a room. “Fine, pick a room,” Flair reportedly said, “and may the best man walk out. Better yet, I’ll walk outside and get into the ring.”

The Nature Boy actually walked out to the near-empty arena and waited in the ring. Foley did not actually go fight Flair, saying that he was not “going to hit a 50-year-old guy” – Flair responded that Foley need not worry about his age, since he couldn’t win the fight. Ric Flair admitted that he was not a big, tough fighter, but could certainly “mess” Foley up.

WWE still reportedly hopes to turn this into a storyline, but the likelihood of such an angle is hard to gauge, as there does seem to be real-life tension, even if it seems a bit immature.
