WWE RAW Results (7/18) – New Champion?

Alberto Del Rio comes out and says they all know he won the Money In The Bank match, and he can cash in whenever he wants, but CM Punk ran away like a little chicken. He says he places blame on Cena for not getting the job done, and hopes he gets fired. Alberto says it’s time for a new hero they can trust, and reminds everyone it is his destiny to become their WWE Champion. His music plays again and Ricardo Rodriguez surprises him by making his return and formally announces Alberto from the ramp.

WWE Championship Tournament Match – First Round

Kofi Kingston vs Alberto Del Rio

Kofi starts by hitting tons of offense on Alberto including Alberto falling through the ropes and Kofi hitting a suicide dive. Alberto catches Kofi with a kick to the head on the way in the ring. He keeps Kofi on the mat and kicks him and drops an elbow, but only gets a two count. Kofi fight back with body shots then hits a elbow and avoids a corner dive by Alberto. Both guys get to their feet at the same time and Kofi starts his controlled frenzy. He stops Alberto from leaving the ring and gets caught with a backbreaker instead. Alberto taunts Kofi then picks him up to set up the Cross Armbreaker, but Kofi rolls through and steals the pinfall!

WWE Championship Tournament Match – First Round

Rey Mysterio vs Dolph Ziggler

Dolph punches Rey then kicks him in the ribs and throws him outside, and slams him on the floor then rolls him back in the ring. Dolph positions himself behind Rey and pulls back on his leg to slow him down, but Rey fights out and starts to run the ropes. Dolph reverses a senton attempt into a flapjack, but Rey catches him off guard and kicks him in the head. Rey goes up top and hits a senton, and reverses a pin attempt, but Ziggler kicks his leg out and whips him into the turnbuckle. Dolph goes for a sleeperhold but Rey slides him over his shoulders and he goes face first into the turnbuckle. Rey goes up top and uses the ropes for a hurricanrana, then sets up a 619 only to have Dolph duck it. Dolph drops him with a spinning front slam for two and gets frustrated when he can’t put him away. Rey catches him off guard and hits the 619, then hits a top rope slash to take the win.
