CM Punk, the last person to win the WWE championship, surprised everyone at an AAW independent wrestling show when he came out of the curtain this past weekend. After Gregory Iron finished a match that he teamed with Colt Cabana, CM Punk made a surprise appearance where he said some powerful words to put over how good he thought Gregory Iron is. To see and hear it all check out the video at the bottom of this page.
Justin: Explain to me the disability that you have been dealt with that you have not let stop you from wrestling?
Gregory Iron: Cerebral Palsy is a disability that affects the way my brain sends signal to the right side of my body, my right arm and hand in particular. There are various degrees of CP, with mine being a very mild form, which I am fortunate for. CP does make things in everyday life, and wrestling, more difficult, but just like anything else, I learned to live with it my whole life, and have done the best I could with what I had.
Justin: What is your reaction to what CM Punk had to say to you about how talented you are and what you've overcome?
Gregory Iron: What Colt and Punk said to me really blew me away. It was a really surreal feeling to have two of the very best wrestlers in the world, one of which is the WWE Champion, tell me that I am "f***ing awesome." The past five years, I have worked very hard to prove that I am not just a guy with a disability. I am a professional wrestler. To earn the respect of CM Punk and Colt Cabana, in the middle of the ring, in front of the world basically, is simply incredible.
Justin: Did you know that CM Punk was in the building before you went out to the ring?
Gregory Iron: I did know Punk was there earlier, as I had introduced myself briefly earlier. But I had no idea he was going to appear in front of the live crowd, particularly with me out there. When Colt went to the back, I thought to myself, "Oh my God, he's bringing Punk out here." It still doesn't seem real. For about the next ten hours, time kind of stood still for me. It still really hasn't sunk in.
Justin: Now that some time has gone by and video of the encounter has gone viral……anything that you would like to say to them?
Gregory Iron: I told them both personally that if I never go any farther than I have right now in wrestling, I will remember THAT moment for the rest of my life. I cannot thank them enough. Having their public endorsement is going to help me spread my story, and give me more opportunities to show the ability I have in front of more people than ever. I have never met Punk before that night, and for him to say what he said to me means the world. I have spoke to Colt several times in the past, seeking knowledge and advice. He is an amazing athlete, and should be with WWE right now. He had no reason to do what he did Saturday night, other than he is a truly amazing human being. But, from the bottom of my heart, I thank Colt for seeing something unique and special in me, and giving me a gift that I hope one day I can somehow repay him for.
