More Notes from Tonight’s Genesis Impact Wrestling: Sting Fights for His Career; One Tag Partner Stands Tall, Roode/Angle

impact wrestling ratingThe following are a handful of major storyline updates from tonight's episode of TNA Impact Wrestling:

-Former tag team champions James Storm and Gunner faced off in a match dating back to the end of 2013. With Gunner's "Feast or Fired" briefcase and a shot at the world title on the line, the up-and-comer moved past "The Cowboy" with one of the biggest wins of his career. Gunner will now look ahead towards Magnus and the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, which will definitely not sit well with his former mentor.

-Austin Aries defeated Chris Sabin in what has become a nice best-of-3 series to once again become the X-Division Champion. Sabin's self-absorbed attitude had reached new heights in recent weeks, and his girlfriend Velvet Sky may have hit her limit. With the former Knockouts Champion voluntarily locked in a cage at ringside, Sabin was unable to retain his title and prove he has what it takes to get the job done, without the help of a woman.

-In a feud that has spanned the last several months, the Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle was able to finally prove that he can beat Bobby Roode, coming up victorious in their steel cage match at tonight's pre-recorded Genesis event. The two have been going back and forth with Roode winning two out of three falls at Final Resolution to close out 2013. Is the war between these two main event stars finally over, and if not what else can they possibly do to each other to settle the score?

-Finally, in the Genesis Night Two main event, TNA World Champion Magnus faced "The Icon" Sting with everything on the line. With Sting putting up his career on Impact Wrestling as a sacrifice to get one last shot, Magnus once again enlisted the help of Dixie Carter, Ethan Carter III, Bobby Roode, Zema Ion and the BroMans to retain his title and forever eliminate Sting from the TNA roster. With talk of the Stinger finally making his debut in WWE, have we seen the last of the "Insane Icon" on Spike TV?
