Kofi Kingston Talks Royal Rumble Tricks, Growing Up In New Orleans, WrestleMania 30 Dream Opponent & More

Kofi Kingston talksWWE superstar Kofi Kingston will be having somewhat of a homecoming when he returns to New Orleans this April for WrestleMania XXX. Kingston spent his very early years in the city, attending Lusher elementary from preschool to second grade.

Kingston was doing some press in the area recently and spoke with NOLA.com, which we posted a brief excerpt from yesterday, about WrestleMania this year, being known for his tricks during the Royal Rumble match each year, and more. Most would think Kofi plans his acrobatic moves for the Royal Rumble match weeks or even months in advance, Kingston said that wasn't the case.

“The funny thing about it is that a lot of people think that I think about them year-round, and the past three years now, the idea hasn’t come to me until like 12 hours before the event,” he said. “I don’t put any pressure on myself to come up with anything cool. I approach it like any other match. I don’t know if I’d put one (escape) above another. Like I always say, the greatest trick of all would be to actually win.”

In addition to New Orleans being the host city for WrestleMania this year where he'll likely perform, Kingston will have a chance to give back to New Orleans in another way that week. On April 4, Kingston will be working with KaBOOM! — a national non-profit that works to ensure all children get a balance of active play — to build a playground.

“Coming back to help build a playground, I really feel like I’m literally giving back to the community that I grew up in. Definitely a full-circle type deal. … We’re excited to make it happen. It’s one of the coolest experiences I’m going to have this WrestleMania season.”

Kofi talked much more about WrestleMania and his New Orleans childhood in this interview feature, including revealing Shawn Michaels as his WrestleMania dream match.
