Fergal Devitt Comments on WWE Signing; Which NXT Stars is He Familiar With?

Earlier today WWE officially announced the signing of 33-year-old Irish wrestler “Prince” Fergal Devitt, who will soon be reporting to NXT along with Japanese star Kenta. Devitt took to Twitter this afternoon to post the following:

Fergal Devitt is a former 3-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, a 2-time winner of the New Japan Best of the Super Juniors tournament – going undefeated last year – and a six time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion.

The official WWE announcement mentions that he is familiar with current NXT Champion Adrian Neville, that the two have wrestled together in Japan, and that Devitt actually trained newcomer Diva Becky Lynch, who has shown up on quite a few episodes of WWE NXT.

KILLAM: What’s interesting to me is that with the Sin Cara signing several years back, WWE made sure to reference his original name and immediate brand him with a new one. Here, and with Kenta a few weeks ago, WWE seems to be going out of its way to recognize these international talents by their already developed names. Of course, that could change when either actually debuts on NXT, but I’m hoping its good news for Kevin Steen as well – although naming him “Hunk Godsack” or something equally ridiculous could make for some entertaining TV.
