Where Is Simon Dean?

WWE.com recently posted another ‘Where Are They Now?’ article, this time taking a look at former ECW and WWE Superstar Simon Dean.

Dean, real name Mike Bucci, also went by Super Nova and Nova in ECW, and is now retired from wrestling, working as a bank manager in Kentucky.

The article features several quotes from Bucci on his wrestling career, including how he broke into the business, his inspiration for the Nova and Dean characters, and more. You can read a few excerpts below:

Why The bWo and “Hollywood” Nova Worked:

“I think it was the fact that we were three guys that were the most unlikely wrestling stars: a guy in cutoff shorts, a fat dude with blue hair who could moonsault and a comic book superhero. Plus, we were friends outside the ring. I think that always came across.”

Bucci On The Simon Dean Character and the ‘Dean Machine’ Segway:

“I told them I wanted to be a cross between Tony Little and Jack LaLanne. I said I wanted to have supplements and do infomercials. [Mr. McMahon’s] eyes lit up and two weeks later I was at WWE Headquarters filming the infomercials.”

“I was on a casino boat in Indiana, and I saw a security guard going around on a Segway,” he explained. “I said, ‘Look at him, he’s too lazy to walk around.’ I thought, ‘This is perfect!’”

His Advice For Superstars At The End Of Their Career:

“You need a focus. You need to have a reason to get out of bed every day.  I would implore every WWE Superstar, either at the Performance Center or on the main roster, to get themselves in the best place possible for life after wrestling.”
